The Australian Masters
Sporte Leisure served as the licensed merchandise supplier for The Australian Masters, producing official apparel, headwear and accessories for one of Australian golf's most celebrated events. First held in 1979, the Masters became the second major event on the Australian summer calendar alongside the Australian Open, drawing the game's elite to Melbourne's Sandbelt courses for four decades before the tournament was discontinued.
About the Tournament
The Australian Masters was defined by its home: Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne, a course that tested every facet of the game across a layout the world's best players came to respect and fear in equal measure. The tournament's signature tradition — the presentation of the gold jacket to each year's champion — became one of Australian golf's most recognisable rituals, and the Masters roll of honour attracted the game's greatest names from the very first edition.
No player defined the tournament more completely than Greg Norman, who won six gold jackets between 1981 and 1990 in a dominance that has never been approached. Adam Scott, Ian Baker-Finch, Craig Parry, Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter are among the subsequent champions who lifted the Masters to international prominence. The event was a genuine showcase for Australian golf and provided a platform that launched several domestic careers onto the world stage before it ceased after the 2015 edition.
